Support drill session recordings (ball machine, partner, serving)

Example: User records themself and a drilling partner. Player A is feeding shots from the kitchen, Player B is hitting drops from near the baseline.

The system then provides analytics on all shots from Player B which allows for analysis of drop characteristics.

I like to drill often both with my Titan pb machine and a Dink Master. From the machine drilling side I typically drill for an hour and practice one specific drill. What I would love to track with PB Vision on top of what is already tracked:

    • How many total balls per drill

    • What shots did I struggle with the most then give a breakdown of ball launch speed/direction/landing spot along with my reaction (my shot speed, direction, court position)

    • Same as above but for my strongest shots

In general I want to track where Im weakest and where I am strongest. Is my backhand crosscourt more consistent and powerful compared to a down the line backhand? Am I popping up the back too much on my resets?

Id also love to see a general tracking of specific shots with criteria for “passing”. Something like “drop mastery” where I can compete to get a unique badge after I can get “1000 mid kitchen drops” or a “banger” badge for hitting “1000 drives” into deep court with XX speed (mph/km).

kind of like a game where I am building up individual skills in real time and challenging myself to track my progress.

This would be a huge selling point for me as I prefer tracking my drilling progress over games. I can see myself recording a game here and there but seeing my progress over 6 months of drilling through in-depth analytics is incredibly valuable.

Yes! I could imagine giving the Users the ability to also select what drill they are working on for filtering in the future.

Alright everyone — what types of drills would you like to see with PB Vision?

Id like to track drills with my Titan as mentioned below. I mostly use my Titan for specific shots like drives, drops and resets.

It would be awesome if there was also a way to track reaction speed. Sometimes I like to crank up the speed on my machine then practice dodging and hitting counters at the kitchen.

Since these are drills, Im looking to track my progress over time. Maybe something like the “first 5” from “that pickleball school” which are:

      • Serves

      • Returns

      • 3rd shots

      • 4th shot

      • 5th shot

Having some sort of training program to track this would be awesome. Maybe a 5 week program where we progress through each of these and track how well we do against common criteria (depth, speed, placement, etc) .

      1) 7-11

      • Analysis of drops, drives, and blocks

      2) Fast hands (volley) drills

      3) Dink drills

      4) Serve and return drills

      • 3 or 4 shot drill: 1) Serve 2) Return 3) 3rd shot 4) Fourth shot

      • Would be great to know the speed of rpm of the serve

Thanks for working on having drill mode availability working on PBVision. It's a game changer. -M

I drill almost daily before playing. This could be a great tool.

Can anyone with interest in drill sessions report out how they imagine this could work? Even just explaining how your drill sessions work and what you’d expect to capture (in light of what PBV allows today) would be super helpful for us as we design.

      Hi Ryan,

The way I imagine it could work is the drill session would basically be a series of drills based around different shots and at the end you get an assessment of your shot quality for each shot.

For example, you could do an ‘assessment’ of your first 4 shots by taking 15 minutes on each shot. You start by serving, then returning, then 3rd shots and then 4th. At the end you can see your percentage of how many you did successfully as well as quality (like depth or height etc) and you get a averaged score or score per drill.

So if I am a user, I could do analyze a drill session with this or a similar structured format at the beginning of the month as an 'assessment’, and then again at the end of the month to see if my shots improved or where my weak shots are.

@ryan I drill on M-W-F and play on T-TH-Sat. What I drill on drill days I try to implement the next time I play. For instance, if a shot that I’ve missed or not hit as well as I’ve wanted to in a game is an inside-in down the line forehand, then in my next drilling session that’s the shot that I will focus on. I mostly train with a ball machine. So for me, seeing where my inside-in forehand balls are landing on the opposing court would be extremely helpful. I always play a game with myself to see how many of a shot I can hit after drilling it for while. So to be able to have the software tell me where my shots are landing, how fast I’m hitting the ball, etc., would be great.

I play a lot of singles as well so I practice my serve and return of serve a ton! Being able to see if my servers and returns are going as deep as I want them to and the quadrant of the opposing court where I want the to land, would be immensely helpful.

What you track, grows! So tracking all this for me would be instrumental in developing my game.

    Thank you for your consideration.

I love this, thanks for explaining your process @Andreas.PB !

We have actually just released the ability to process Singles games if you’d like to check that out.

seeing where my inside-in forehand balls are landing on the opposing court would be extremely helpful.

This is something you can explore via our Shot Explorer via the directional filters!
