Shot Editing
It would be very beneficial to be able to edit the shots. For example, removing a falsely identified “serve” that was really a knockback.
For V1, we’re thinking players should be able to at least remove a rally or a shot so that they don’t show up in the Shot Explorer. Future iterations might enable players to add in missing things or correct shot trajectories, types, quality, player assignment, etc. from the AI designation which can be incorrect.

For V1, it would also be nice to reassign the shot to a different player. I see them misidentified often. Delete for things that aren’t actually shots (knock-backs), and reassign player and type are good for me.
It would also be nice to see any potential missed shots and be able to add these to the rally that it may not have been detected on.
For example, are most missed shots the first or last in a point? Why not give me an editing view that shows the 4 secs before and after all rallies? A quick scan of those bookends could reveal missed shots. If I find a serve and add it, adjust the shot sequence of the next 4.

First, I believe ground truth data is the most important aspect of this enterprise. No one will trust any derived insight such as player rating, suggested improvement areas, game score, or even shot speed if pbvision is making errors on player attribution, in/out, phantom hits, etc. And given where the product is today, I think we still have a large opportunity to improve accuracy.
Second, I assume that getting high quality labeled data for free from your user base can only massively accelerate model accuracy.
Third, even releasing a barebones v1 that flags errors WITHOUT actually correcting the shot (no need to re-run the model or re-process the video) would, I assume, create a ton of value for pbvision. Even if it’s not an automated pipeline, it at least will flag videos for your labelers to go through and add to the training corpus.
Fourth, I’m confident a significant percent of the pbvision community will flag errors even with no immediate benefit to themselves. I’m sure most will understand they’re helping with the future accuracy of the model and the service that they’re paying for.
Heck, just pretty up whatever tool your labelers use and release it to the community. Either way, long way to say that I believe creating a community generated feedback loop for accuracy should be prioritized on the roadmap — even if the MVP is almost comically barebones.

I completely agree. To me this is the most important concept being discussed. Everything hinges and builds off the data so it needs to be accurate. Even from a business model for PBV I think this would have to take top priority. I understand that AI is going to miss some things. But a simple and user friendly way of manual correcting is a must. I used SwingVision for the past couple years. Many people asked me about it. I told them not to get it because the stats were inaccurate and although they had a way of manually fixing it the process was ridiculously tedious. Plus it was so inaccurate to begin with it made you depressed to even begin to try to fix it. So they didn’t purchase the product. I assume the “casual” pickleball player doesn’t record their games and many that do record do so just to watch their best shot of the game. They are probably not going to purchase any software or will get the least expensive available that will cut out the dead time automatically. But the ones that are willing to pay for advanced metrics and insights are the ones that are going to want it to be accurate. They are also the ones that are going to either refer new customers to PBV or tell them it’s not worth it.

Love this! Do we have a date on delivery for Phase 1 yet?

Any updates on this?

No updates as of yet; we’ve not been able to justify investments in this area quite yet. It’s incredibly complicated for us to enable this due to how the game description is generated by our pipeline (it’s immutable and one way)— for now, users unfortunately have to live with the AI’s mistakes.

Trying to keep very accurate stats, so this is very important to prioritize.

I will not resubscribe to PB Vision until this feature is implemented. It has been six months since I checked in on the status of this roadmap item. 7 months ago it was marked “In Progress”, and three weeks ago it was downgraded to “Planned”. I do not see this as a positive sign. Can you be more transparent about your plans for this critical feature?

Please provide this capability as soon as possible. IT IS CRITICAL, otherwise all the data and statistics are inaccurate. What’s the value if it’s inaccurate?

You can now edit highlights via the bookmarking system. Shot editing remains open.

Can you please update your roadmap to provide more transparency and detail on what you are planning to implement? Just 29 days ago you responded that “we’ve not been able to justify investments in this area quite yet” and “for now, users unfortunately have to live with the AI’s mistakes”. So what exactly does this new update mean?

Sorry I wasn’t more clear. We don’t currently have a timeline for delivering shot editing. It’s something we really want to do but the only way we can think to do it would be very, very difficult and time consuming to implement so for now we’re focused on other features.
I just wanted to mention with that message that we merged the auto AI highlights work into our new bookmarks feature which means that users can now remove/edit our highlights. Highlights used to be bundled into this feature request as something players wanted to edit alongside shots.

What did you mean by “Shots next!”?

Just that eventually we want to enable some form of shot editing (hence this planned feature request, with no ETA; otherwise it would be rejected if wouldn’t/couldn’t do it).
I tried to make my comment more clear: “Shot editing remains open.”

We have been talking about this for quite some time. Can you describe an example so I can be sure we’re on the same page?

Michael under the type of shot the AI described a distinctive lob as a drive. I would like to be able to edit the shot selection.
Thanks

Two simple examples.
I hit a third shot drop that my opponent volleyed out of the air into the net. It recorded it as a missed lob by me that went into net.
My opponent hit a dink into the net during a longer rally. he then popped the ball back over to me and I reached up and tried to grab it. It recorded it I believe as I missed an overhead or slam.

Seeing falsely identified shots - example: hitting a ball across the net to get it back to the correct side. Would be great to be able to delete.

I have an addition to this - I got a return shot that was marked incorrectly on where it landed, partially because of the angle of the camera, the ball landing was hidden behind the person receiving the shot, would be nice to edit the position of where the detected ball landed in the court, either in the 3d view or in the video itself.
