Identify and Track Unforced Errors

Differentiate between an unforced error and an error forced by a good shot. Not only allows user to track improvement over time, but showing the location where the unforced error occurred and whether it was backhand, forehand, overhead, or dink could be very useful in knowing what to improve.

We’ve developed an unforced error classification system as of September 2025. We are currently working to expose this information on individual insights reports, trends page, and as a filter in the Shot Explorer.

Note, we plan to release this system as part of our upcoming player skill profile feature. It would be under the Consistency component

We have released Shot Explorer for our Premium members to be able to filter for errors and additional things like backhand/forehand, dinks, etc.

This is very much needed for players at all levels of skill. Thank you!

Couldn’t agree more :) it’s just very hard to implement so we’re getting there incrementally!

We’ve been able to create something very special here! We have an algorithm that captures unforced errors very well. Now, it does err on the side of missing something YOU might considered unforced becuase it was a shot you’d typically think is “easy” but the idea is we’d rather have something marked as unforced that we are 99% certain you’d agree is unforced.

It should go out with the cross-game stats release and skill ratings next week :)

Agree that a missed serve is unforced, but everything else is very difficult to determine because you’re responding to a previous shot. Simply hitting your return out or into the net does not mean it was unforced. It was forced by a serve that pulled you way wide and you barely got to it. An ace is an earned point.

It’s only unforced if it’s a shot you expect to make, and that’s entirely subjective. Better to allow a filter in shot explorer for all points where I hit it last. Then I can go in and decide if those were forced or not. No way to tell objectively.

will we get an email stating the feature is now available? I won’t upload my singles matches until this is available.

If we upload games prior to next week, will we still be able to see this new feature on our uploaded games?

Good question. Unfortunately the answer is that for this specific case, we won’t be able to back port so it will just be enabled for future uploads
