Better Pricing and Monthly Option

Should I wait to subscribe? There is no reason to wait. The new Premium plan will be the same cost and feature set, and you will get more usage. If you subscribe today, we will automatically increase your allowance when the new plans roll out.

Here is the plan:

  • More value on every plan, roughly 2 to 3 times more games per dollar

  • All unused credits convert automatically at rollout, 1 credit = 30 minutes of video, giving you more than two games for each credit.

  • Premium Plan

    • Upon renewal, the included usage more than doubles—you now get 4,800 minutes (about 400 games) instead of 180 credits.

  • Starter Plan

    • Upon renewal, the price will drop from $180 to $99.99 per year.

    • You now get 1,200 minutes (about 100 games) instead of 60 games in your plan.

    • Shot Explorer access and the most recent month of trends and ratings are now included in the plan.

  • Minutes roll over and stack up while your subscription is active

Be Upfront About Pricing & Offer More Flexibility

I really like what PB Vision is doing, but I have to call out something on the pricing page—it lists plans as “$15/month” when it’s actually billed annually at $180 upfront. That’s not a true monthly plan, and this type of drip pricing is a well-known dark pattern. If the only option is a yearly subscription, just say the actual cost instead of making it seem like there’s a monthly plan when there isn’t.

That said, I would sign up if there were a true month-to-month option or a pay-as-you-go credit system. Here’s why I think that makes sense:

    1. Some Players Don’t Use It Year-Round

Not everyone plays pickleball consistently enough to justify an annual subscription. A monthly option would give people the freedom to pause when they aren’t using the service and resubscribe when they are.

    2. Let People Buy Credits Without a Subscription

If I just need a few more credits, why should I have to buy an entire new plan? A pay-as-you-go option would be way more flexible and would keep casual users engaged without forcing a commitment. I think this is my favorite option.

    3. Other Services Offer This—Why Not Here?

Most subscription-based services offer both monthly and annual plans (with a discount for yearly). Many also allow one-time purchases for things like extra credits. The current setup feels unnecessarily restrictive.

    4. It Might Even Make More Money

If hosting costs are an issue, PB Vision could:

    • Charge slightly more for monthly plans (e.g., $20/month vs. $15/month yearly).

    • Offer bulk credit packs at a discount.

    • Make credits expire after a set period (6-12 months) to keep revenue predictable.

I want to use the service, but right now, I don’t get $180 worth of value from it—at least not yet. I’d love to get to the point where it feels like a no-brainer, but that’s tough when there’s no way to ease into it with a monthly or weekly option. If I could start with a shorter commitment, I’d have a chance to really integrate it into my routine and eventually feel like the annual plan is worth it. Right now, there’s no good way to get hooked! 😅

    Cheers.

    JL

Just want to second option 2. I buy credits when I need them, which is when I have games I believe will be instructive to analyze during periods when I’m actively trying to improve. Different seasons have different sports.

A subscription should be free. A credit should include 12 months of storage for that game. Progress tracking is based on the last 12 months of games. You can delete the original video after processing and only store the cropped version.

I will buy credits during the playing season when I have scheduled games with players we’ve agreed to film and evaluate. Not suitable for open play.

@dcoffing Annual isn’t always the best option for a user although it is best for you the supplier to have us locked in for 12 months. When I don’t play during the winter months it becomes pretty annoying to know I am paying for something I am not using for a significant part of the year. It’s the reason I never wanted a swimming pool, a boat, etc.

Thank you for sharing this perspective—it’s one we hear from other seasonal players, and it makes complete sense. I’m in Georgia, where it’s too hot for much pickleball for a couple of months each year, so I understand the importance of flexibility. Personally, I find the 180 credits per year enough to cover my ~10 months of playing, even with breaks.

We initially considered a monthly subscription, but we figured it may often led to challenges with frequent cancellations and renewals. This created complexities both for users and for us. The annual commitment model helps us focus on delivering consistent value.

@Michelle Cuff Thank you for showing your support and loving what we’re building!

We chose annual plans to avoid frequent activations and deactivations, which could lead to data loss. Since we delete data 30 days after a subscription lapses, canceling for a few months—for instance, due to an injury—would mean losing your historical analytics, trends, and video library. The annual commitment helps protect your data even if you take a break from playing, as many users might not realize that canceling would result in data deletion.

Why not just allow us to export all the stats from a video for our own safe keeping?

You can totally do this right now even. It’s just not a feature I’ve heard requested before. The video itself is most expensive to store so those are what get cleaned up

Thanks for your thoughts, @J !

We do currently offer 1- and 2-month subscriptions at https://pb.vision/gift.

We show the monthly price ($15 or $20) so people can compare with their other monthly subscriptions, but also list the “billed at” on the pricing page and at checkout as an annual plan—there’s a confirmation step so folks don’t unintentionally make a purchase when checking out.

We opted for annual plans to keep user data safe. We delete data 30 days after a subscription ends, so repeatedly starting and stopping would risk losing valuable historical game stats, trends (in the works!), and videos. The annual commitment also helps us manage storage costs, and it makes our revenue more predictable—key for a startup.

That said, I hear you on wanting more flexibility. I’m currently looking into ways to offer monthly plans or a buy-now-pay-later option (like Affirm) so people can pay in monthly installments outside of our gift option. Stay tuned, and thanks again for sharing your feedback. We really appreciate it!

Will there be a tier with shot explorer, too? Or can I upgrade to it as an add on for a single game? Do my unused credits rollover? That would allow me to store up credits on the offseason.

This is definitely more awkward than simply pay-per-upload, but the price point is very reasonable. Good work on that!

Currently, Shot Explorer is available for folks who sign up for the Starter Plans in July (for the whole year)!

Yes, with the monthly Starter subscription offering, the credits would roll over as long as the user stays subscribed (the same as the annual policy for rolling over).
